Getting started

Call DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813 through AI Gateway with the AI SDK generateText and streamText functions, or through the OpenAI Chat Completions, OpenAI Responses, and Anthropic Messages APIs by changing the base URL. AI Gateway authenticates the request and routes it to an available provider.

Install the AI SDK (pnpm add ai dotenv), create an API key from the API Keys page, and set it as AI_GATEWAY_API_KEY in your environment. Full setup is covered in the text generation quickstart.

index.ts
import { generateText } from 'ai';
import 'dotenv/config';
async function main() {
const result = await generateText({
model: 'deepseek/deepseek-v4-pro-0813',
prompt: 'Why is the sky blue?',
});
console.log(result.text);
}
main().catch(console.error);

Top-level parameters

The same DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813 request in each API format AI Gateway supports.

top-level-params.ts
import { generateText } from 'ai';
import 'dotenv/config';
async function main() {
const result = await generateText({
model: 'deepseek/deepseek-v4-pro-0813',
system: 'You are a concise technical assistant.',
prompt: 'Summarize the tradeoffs between static generation and SSR.',
maxOutputTokens: 1024,
});
console.log(result.text);
}
main().catch(console.error);

Standard parameters like prompt, messages, temperature, and tools work as documented in the AI SDK docs. These are the parameters with model-specific behavior.

ParameterTypeRequiredDescription
modelstringYesModel ID in the form creator/model, e.g. deepseek/deepseek-v4-pro-0813. AI Gateway routes the request to an available provider.
maxOutputTokensnumberNoHard cap on generated tokens. DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813 supports up to 1,048,576 output tokens. Reasoning tokens count toward this limit.
reasoning'provider-default' | 'none' | 'minimal' | 'low' | 'medium' | 'high' | 'xhigh'NoProvider-agnostic reasoning effort, available in AI SDK 7 or later. Maps to the provider’s native reasoning configuration; reasoning settings under providerOptions take precedence when both are set. See the Reasoning section below.
providerOptionsRecord<string, JSONValue>NoAI Gateway routing options under gateway, plus any provider-native options under the provider’s own namespace — see the table below.

Provider options

Set AI Gateway routing options under providerOptions.gateway. For provider-specific options, pass them under the provider’s namespace as documented by the AI SDK.

Learn more in the AI SDK deepseek provider docs.

provider-options.ts
import { generateText } from 'ai';
import 'dotenv/config';
async function main() {
const result = await generateText({
model: 'deepseek/deepseek-v4-pro-0813',
prompt: 'Why is the sky blue?',
providerOptions: {
gateway: {
only: ['deepseek', 'baseten'],
},
},
});
console.log(result.text);
}
main().catch(console.error);

These AI Gateway routing options apply to every model. Provider-specific options pass through under the provider’s own namespace (for example providerOptions.anthropic) exactly as documented by the AI SDK.

ParameterTypeRequiredDescription
providerOptions.gateway.onlystring[]NoRestrict routing to these provider slugs. Requests fail over only within the listed providers.
providerOptions.gateway.orderstring[]NoPreferred provider order. Listed providers are tried first; unlisted providers remain available as fallbacks.
providerOptions.gateway.sort'cost' | 'ttft' | 'tps'NoRank candidate providers by price, time to first token, or tokens per second instead of the default routing order.
providerOptions.gateway.zeroDataRetentionbooleanNoRoute only to providers with a zero-data-retention policy for this model.

Routing across providers

AI Gateway serves the same model through multiple providers and fails over automatically. order expresses a preference while keeping every provider eligible; only is a hard allowlist — if none of the listed providers are available the request fails instead of falling back.

Options under a provider's own namespace (for example providerOptions.anthropic) are forwarded to that provider with the request. Providers ignore option namespaces that don't apply to them, so it is safe to set provider options alongside gateway routing options.

Reasoning

AI Gateway bridges reasoning across every API format. The AI SDK exposes a provider-agnostic top-level reasoning level (none, minimal, low, medium, high, or xhigh); the Chat Completions and Responses formats take the same effort under reasoning.effort; and the Anthropic Messages format uses a native thinking token budget. Whichever you send, the gateway maps it to the target model’s native configuration, converting between effort levels and token budgets as needed. Reasoning-related settings under providerOptions take full precedence over the top-level reasoning value and are never merged. Reasoning tokens typically count toward your output-token usage, though how they’re reported and billed varies by provider.

Learn more in the AI Gateway reasoning guide.

reasoning.ts
import { generateText } from 'ai';
import 'dotenv/config';
async function main() {
const result = await generateText({
model: 'deepseek/deepseek-v4-pro-0813',
prompt: 'Explain the Monty Hall problem step by step.',
reasoning: 'high',
});
console.log(result.text);
}
main().catch(console.error);

Tool calling

Expose tools the model can call. Define each tool’s inputs with a Zod schema.

tool-calling.ts
import { generateText, tool } from 'ai';
import { z } from 'zod';
import 'dotenv/config';
async function main() {
const result = await generateText({
model: 'deepseek/deepseek-v4-pro-0813',
prompt: 'What is the weather in San Francisco?',
tools: {
getWeather: tool({
description: 'Get the current weather for a location',
inputSchema: z.object({ location: z.string() }),
execute: async ({ location }) => ({ location, temperatureC: 18 }),
}),
},
});
console.log(result.text);
}
main().catch(console.error);

Copy link to headingAbout DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813

DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813 was released August 12, 2026 as the general-availability checkpoint of DeepSeek's V4 Pro, ending a preview period that ran close to four months. DeepSeek describes it as superseding the preview build, with greatly enhanced agentic capabilities and improvements that show up most in production environments.

The architecture is a mixture-of-experts design with 1.6 trillion total parameters and 49 billion active per token, combining two attention variants DeepSeek calls Compressed Sparse Attention and Heavily Compressed Attention. Together they cut per-token inference compute and KV cache substantially at the million-token setting, which is what makes a context window of 1.0M tokens practical rather than theoretical.

DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813 keeps thinking and non-thinking modes, tool calls, and up to 1.0M tokens per response. On vendor-reported results it scores 87.9 on Terminal Bench 2.1, 74.1 on Toolathlon-Verified, and 80.6 on SWE-bench Verified. Independent evaluators have not replicated those figures for this build.

You can integrate DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813 through AI SDK, Chat Completions API, Responses API, Messages API, or other API formats, from TypeScript or Python.

  • Configuration: Pricing on this model changed shortly after release, moving to a schedule with peak and off-peak rates where off-peak bills at half the peak rate. Cache-hit input saw the largest increase. Check the pricing panel on this page before sizing a workload, and if your traffic is shiftable, note that the same job can cost meaningfully less outside peak hours.
  • Configuration: Independent reception has been more mixed than the vendor benchmarks suggest. DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813 scores 53 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, level with GLM-5.2 and behind the mid-tier of the GPT-5.6 series, and reviewers have been cooler on general capability than on its niche strengths. The headline evaluation numbers are vendor-reported and have not been independently replicated for this build, so benchmark it on your own tasks.
  • Configuration: The dated slug pins a specific checkpoint. Use it when you need reproducible behaviour, and use the undated deepseek-v4-pro when you would rather follow the series forward.
  • Zero Data Retention: Zero Data Retention is available for this model. It is offered on a per-provider and model basis. See the documentation for details.
  • Authentication: AI Gateway authenticates requests using an API key or OIDC token. You do not need to manage provider credentials directly.

Copy link to headingWhen to Use DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813

Best for

  • Reproducible Agent Behaviour: A dated checkpoint that a series update cannot shift
  • Agentic Production Work: The area that improved most over the preview build
  • Million-Token Context: Compressed attention making a 1.0M tokens window practical
  • Terminal And Tool Workloads: Its strongest vendor-reported benchmark territory
  • Shiftable Batch Traffic: Off-peak billing at half the peak rate

Consider alternatives when

  • General Capability: Its Artificial Analysis score sits mid-pack against frontier models
  • Following The Series: Undated deepseek-v4-pro tracks forward instead of pinning
  • Cheaper Throughput: deepseek-v4-flash-0731 is the efficiency tier of the same series
  • Verified Benchmarks: Headline results are vendor-reported and not independently replicated

DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813 is the checkpoint that took V4 Pro out of preview, with stronger agentic behaviour and a 1.0M tokens window that compressed attention makes usable. Point deepseek/deepseek-v4-pro-0813 at AI Gateway when you need pinned, reproducible behaviour, and check the pricing panel for the peak and off-peak schedule before committing a large workload.

Copy link to headingFrequently Asked Questions

  • What is DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813?

    The general-availability checkpoint of DeepSeek's V4 Pro, released August 12, 2026 after a preview period of nearly four months. DeepSeek describes it as superseding the preview build with greatly enhanced agentic capabilities.

  • Should I use DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813 or the undated deepseek-v4-pro?

    Use DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813 when you need reproducible behaviour, since a dated slug pins one checkpoint. Use the undated slug when you would rather follow the series forward automatically.

  • How is DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813 priced?

    On a schedule with peak and off-peak rates, where off-peak bills at half the peak rate. Cache-hit input rose the most when the schedule changed. See the pricing panel on this page for current rates.

  • What is the context window for DeepSeek V4 Pro 0813?

    The context window is 1.0M tokens, with up to 1.0M tokens per response. Compressed attention cuts per-token compute and KV cache at long context, which is what makes the full window practical.
